Paper Mache Dragon Pair- FINISHED!!

The paper mache dragon pair is finished!    I'm very happy with the result.   I hope that you like them too.

First, the final steps.

I constructed the faces.  I once again decided on blue eyes for both.   They really stand out.    Then I added horns to both, black for the male (like his claws) and off white for the female (like her claws).

I  blackwashed the faces.

Here are finished faces up close.
And here are two shots of the final project (s).  I decided to call the project,  "Tongue Tied and Twisted".

Paper Mache "Tongue Tied and Twisted"

I've added a short video to this entry to help you see the dragons.   There is something about video that just makes it easier to view a project like this even though it's fairly jerky.   Take some Dramamine and watch if you want.    Thanks for checking in !

What took you so long Lindsey?  Ha ha.  You are amazing.   Thank you for being so supportive.   You are just too sweet.   I just happen to have a big commission I'm working on for a restaurant in my neighborhood.     I just may document that build and share it.   I'm gonna think about it for a day or so before I commit myself.   Stay tuned!  (I know you will.)

Hope all is well.  School started for me yesterday.    Life again is very busy.
      See you.

O..M..G.. I knew they would be great but wow, the faces are the cherry on the top alright..They are beautiful, sure wish I could take a drive up and see them in person. I do hope you at least document a little bit of the commission you are going to do. Geeze, seems like school just got out... At least you will post a few of the final pics if you don't get time to doc the whole thing, right? They are fantastic Dan!

      Hey Suz,
It's so nice to hear from you!  You are always really supportive.   I'm glad you like the dragons.  I think they turned out well.   I'm happy with them.   It's nice when you spend months of time on something to have them work out.    It doesn't always go that way.
Okay, just because you wanted me to, I'll document this latest commission.   I'll post something this weekend.
      Take care

Thank you Isaac.    Sorry to hear about your wing.   You can always fix it, right?   I don't know if you use cloth and glue but that really adds strength.   I've done a number of dinosaurs over the years.  I really like them.    They are naturally cool.     Would love to see your pterodactyl.

The detail on these dragons are impeccable. I like seeing the step-by-step to see how the faces were painted. The craftsmanship is so precise. I really love the colors, too.

      Hi Maryanne,
Thank you so much for the nice comment!   That's very nice of you to take the time to write.  This art medium is not difficult at all.   Of course it takes time and effort.   But the techniques are very simple.    And it is very "forgiving."  That is, if you make a mistake you can easily fix it, not like working with wood or metal or clay.     I'm biased.   I've been doing this a long time.   But many people achieve success on the first attempt.  I have many photos of their work on my "your paper mache photos" section of my site.
      Thanks again.
      Dan
(PS.  I fixed the tiny typo.)

      Hello Miriam,
In the US the best known brand name for this glue would be "Elmer's".  Kids use it in school.   It is all purpose and is usually white.   It is also used for gluing wood.   Another term for it is PVA.   The "skin" of my projects is cloth dipped into this white glue.
      I hope this helps.

In any case, thank you again.
