New Paper Mache Project
Well, I'm finally ready to start another project. I've finished all of my commissions. They took much longer than expected (surprise, surprise). Ganesh is done. I'm pretty happy with it. See the photos below.
I wrestled with what project to undertake after the commissions. First I thought I would make a dog. I'd really like to make another dog. And I'm behind on my "Pigs", so I thought that maybe I'd document the making of one of those for this blog. But in the end, I always come back to dragons. I want to make a dragon I've had in mind for a while. I want to make a dragon project that is analogous to an eagle sitting atop a tall, gnarly tree. So I've decided to make a dragon sitting next to a nest, maybe with a couple of eggs in the nest, maybe with a baby dragon head sticking out of one. So that's what I'm going to do. I've decided to post the progress here in much more real time than in the past. I'll post even if there is not much progress. Many people ask me, "How long does a project take?" I can never answer them. Time is elusive. I just can't keep track. So if I post regularly in real time, it should answer that question. I'm starting today, Jan 22. We'll see how long this takes.
I have to start with the nest. I've been saving a bunch of driftwood just for a project such as this. So here is the first photo of this project. Thanks for stopping by.

WOW!! Jackson and I just watched the video and his running commentary was "WOW!" "That is amazing!." "This is awesome." At the end of the video his final comment was; "Man, that guy is just beast!" Oh course he then wanted to watch the video of the hippo. Again, similar commentary followed by; "That's one bad @$$ hippo. I know what I want to make next. I want a hippo for my room. Needless to say, words can't describe your talent! You truly are remarkable and quite an inspiration. So besides my own "dragon" I will be helping Jackson with a hippo and my older son Spencer with a quatzocol (also decided I needed my own "screamer" after purchasing a used copy of your "Screamer" book (signed even!) Again, that you for being so generous with your knowledge and your humor.

Oops, forgot to mention that after looking at all the photos in your books, Neil (my husband) has decided he wants me to make a "boar" type creature for a "bar" area in our basement. And he wants me to cut it in half and have his mounted on one side of a call and his rear end on the other. See, you've even inspired him!!

Tell your husband that that's a great idea! A boar head and boar's butt. Perfect

Thank you Rayne. That's the best compliment an artist can get I think. I appreciate your comment very much.

I have been pondering over and over in my head about paper mache monsters, dragons and mythological creatures for the past few months. So today I decided to do some research online about it. Which brought me here. First off I would just like to say that from the few pictures I have seen, your work is truly remarkable. However, I am curious to know where you find the eyes for the dragon? I live in Canada, and everything I have seen in the past are just peel and stick googally eyes. Also, i was wondering how you made your teeth.
Thanks,
Kole.

I have taken on a large project for a benefit we have every year. It is a three day event and we have dragon boat races. For our parades we have made a faux dragon boat, but would like a head that is a bit more realitic. It very large and I want to be able to place a smoke machine in the nose cavity. I just wonder if you could please tell me what is the cloth like matericl you used. I get the rest of the supplies. but that one has stumped. Any ideas you have to offer would be great, as It has to be very sterdy I have some ideas but your imput would be wonderful. P.S. I would like to finish it by the 4th of July parade. Thank you for your help if you are able to provide it.
