Taking my Paper Mache to Texas
Hello everyone. It's been a while since I posted. Sorry about that. I've started a new project. I'll post my first entry about it very soon. But I thought I should mention that I'm going to Texas in November (the 9th -12th). I'll be one of the keynote speakers at the Texas Art Education Association Convention. I'll also be running a workshop. The conference will be in Galveston at the Moody Gardens Hotel. Click here if you want more information about this.
Between preparing for this conference, and the show I had with the Seattle Sculptor's Guild, and a commission I was finishing... oh, and school starting again, I just haven't had time to post. This has been bothersome because I have begun a really cool project, one I'm very excited about. I promise to at least put the rudimentary steps on this blog by the end of this weekend. Thank you for being so patient!

OOH, Dan, I am so jealous (and actually I just said so on my blog)! Hearing that you are a keynote speaker in Galveston, I wish you were coming to my state conference in NY. I'm sure our keynote speakers will be wonderful, but I've never heard of them, and seeing you and Sandy Skoglund both on the Texas agenda, I'd love to be going to Galveston instead of Tarrytown...
Meanwhile, I'm curious about how many people you will have in your hands-on workshop. Is it ticketed? I know how quickly hands-on workshops close out at our conference; it's always a fight to get a spot for yourself.
Finally, I hope you don't mind - I wrote about this on my blog and I put on a photo of one of your dragons (of course I gave you credit for it!). If you would rather I take the photo down, please let me know.
By the way - the female lizard butterfly lady sounds cool - look forward to seeing it. But we actually still do make pigs once in a while - this past spring we made flying pigs. Not a very sophisticated structure, but still the kids were happy. And pigs really do fly...

Hi Phyl,
You are really kind to post this in your blog. Thank you! This workshop is going to be interesting. I'm not really sure how many people will show up to the workshop. I've noticed that other people have up to 70! What a fun mess this is going to be!
Good luck to both of us. It will be a busy weekend.
Your blog looks great.
Take care
Dan

Dan,
I would have loved to have gotten to see you when you were in Texas! I should have finagled something from our school. I'm a school volunteer and a member of the yearbook staff, I have a name tag and everything!I'm so glad you had a good time in Galveston. The butterfly is looking amazing, I cannot wait to see her when she's finished. I spent my summer chaperoning my daughter's all star softball team (my husband coached), my fall recovering from surgery (nothing too serious just took some time to get back in the swing of things)and taking football pics. I am really hoping I will have time to start another paper mache project soon. I finally have a free room in my house to work since my son moved out. I hope you and your family have a wonderful and safe Christmas. I already have my idea for my next creature I just have to get some time!!! Take care and Happy New Year!!!

Hi Angie,
So nice to hear from you. It's been a while. Sounds like you've had a very eventful few months. I'm glad to hear that you are ready to do some art again. I swear, I didn't actually do any real art for a couple of months before heading to Texas. It almost killed me. I'm so glad to be back at it. Thanks for the nice compliment on the butterfly. She will look very different when she's finished.
Take care of yourself. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season as well.
Talk to you later.
Dan
