Hey all. Sorry, it’s been a while since I posted. I’ve been very busy. I just finished a couple more dragon trophies. I’m making one video showing them both. Can’t seem to stay away from those.
I’ve also been working on this project. It’s been very hard working without little Eddie underfoot. But Mazzy has been filling in. She’s always around to see what I’m doing.
I left off with the body finished. Time to add some feet. As you can tell from the title, this is a dragon-like cat, or a cat-like dragon. Since I am making it for a non-profit that helps rescue feral cats (Kitty Bungalow : Charm School for Wayward Cats, http://www.kittybungalow.org), I wanted something that characterized a wild cat. In fact, I’m thinking the title should be “Feral.” Anyway, I’m making cat-like feet. I start by cutting pieces of wire clothes hanger. I twist a small amount of paper round them and wrap with masking tape. At the end I add crumpled balls of tape for the pads.
I tape each toe onto another crumpled piece of tape that is the body of the foot.
Here are the two front feet.
I trim the wire coming out of the legs…
…and push the stubs into the feet. As I’ve said a dillion times before, having the wire inside the “ankles”, as well as inside the legs, allows me to bend these appendages any way I want and they will stay put. I add little balls of tape to act as knuckles (or whatever you call above the joints). I also slice the end of the toes to accommodate the claws.
I use hot glue to attach the claws.
I also add pads on the bottom of the feet.
I added cloth mache to the feet after they were all added. For some reason I forgot to take more photos after wrapping the claws (well, the reason is that I’m old, and I just got distracted). Note that I also added a fifth toe like cats have on their front feet.
I cut off the end of the neck in preparation for the head. I’ll save that for the next post.
Thanks for stopping by! Make art!
You are so STUPENDOUS!
Hope Muzzy is doing good job. Love the paws. The cat-dragon looks adorably feral.
Mazzy is helping a lot, both in the studio and with my missing Eddie. She’s a sweetheart. Thank you Lryna.
Those paws are outstanding.
Looks good. I can’t imagine a better better combination than Cat & Dragon.
I do think cats and dragons have similar characteristics. Thank you for the note!
Lookin’ fabulous as always!! Love the paws and claws! My granddaughter and I feed, fix and release feral’s. We trap pregnant ones and find temporary foster homes until the kittens can be tamed and homed, so this is dear to my heart!! I’m so sorry about Eddie. I’ll miss seeing him in your videos. ❤️
Thank you Debi. You, and people like you, are saints. Thank you for all you do for these wonderful animals!
So nice to see more of your work. Thank you so much for posting! I love the dragon cat – great paws, and the wings are lovely. It’s so hard to lose a furry friend, every dang time we have to go through the process again. Hang in there and love Maisy. Eddie will always be in your heart. Maybe he’ll send you a new recruit – you know how cats are. Keep up the good work.
Sorry, I meant Mazzy
Absolutely love your work! I appreciate you showing us step by step! Such an inspiration to try and create are out work, though nothing close to yours!
Very inspiring, can’t wait to see it finished.
Thank you Sammy and Sufi. I’ll have another post very soon.
Can’t wait, always fun seeing someone passionately work on something 🙂
This is going to be fantastic. Maybe some odd tufts of hair here and there, like on the tips of his ears and tail!
Looking so good, Dan! Sweet that Mazzy realises you need a companion. I look forward to the next stage… Carol
Fantastic paws! Great to see a new post!
Thank you Alex!
The loss of a furbaby is never easy, my condolences. I’m glad you have another to help with the void. Such wonderful work you have going on, can’t wait to see it done!
Thank you Tim. Yes, Mazzy has helped a lot. Thank you for stopping by!
